Penn State Maintains Runaway Lead in ESPN’s $10,000 Contest

Penn State has lapped the competition in ESPN’s College Colors Day contest as it closes in on the $10,000 grand prize with nearly 44,000 votes.

The College Colors contest started on Aug. 1 and runs through Aug. 31. On Tuesday, the Penn State Nittany Lions vote total reached 43,287. The Texas A&M Aggies were in second place with 26,957 votes and the Missouri Tigers took third with 13,179.

Hosted by ESPN and the Collegiate Licensing Company, the contest is a chance for college football faithful to pledge their allegiance to their school of choice on the College Colors contest website. On August 31, dubbed ‘College Colors Day,’ the winning school will be announced, and with that will come a $10,000 to go toward the university’s general scholarship fund.

Each voter is automatically registered to win one of two grand prizes, each a $500 ESPNshop.com shopping spree. There will also be 20 prizes awarded, four per week, of a $50 ESPNshop.com shopping spree. 

‘College Colors Day is an opportunity for people across America to wear their school colors and support to their favorite team,’ a spokesman for the event said. ‘Fans are encouraged to ‘Pledge Their Allegiance’ to their school at espn.com/collegecolorsday.

‘On College Colors Day (Aug. 31), the school with the most pledges will be crowned ‘Winner of the College Colors Day Spirit Cup’ and be awarded $10,000 for its general scholarship fund.

‘At that time, the winning school can be very proud of the enormous spirit and support demonstrated by its students, faculty, alumni and fan base. The voting continues through Aug. 31, so stay tuned for the winner.’
