Penn State Transportation Services is getting ready to open a new space for cyclists in the university and Centre Region community to connect and learn more about biking.

The Bike Den will be located on the ground level of the new West Campus Parking Deck, where local cyclists of all experience levels can chat, work on do-it-yourself maintenance projects and attend bike education workshops.

A ribbon-cutting for the Bike Den will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 13. Regular fall semester hours of 1-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday will begin on Aug. 17.

The space will host workshops and clinics for community members to learn about safe cycling practices and bike repair, with topics set to include sizing and bike fit adjustments, tire change, chain maintenance and brake adjustments and maintenance.

“One of our goals at Transportation Services is to develop programs and services that improve campus and community sustainability, and the Bike Den will help us continue those efforts,” Sustainable Transportation Program Coordinator Cecily Zhu said in a statement.
