A Penn State student is in hot water after allegedly running through a public park in the nude after doing drugs.

On May 9 around 2:00 p.m., police received a bevy of calls about man without any clothes wandering around Orchard Park off Blue Course Drive, according to court documents.

When officers arrived at the park, they say they found Austin Goewert, 22 of West Chester, “in a kneeling position…fully nude with his genitals exposed.”

Officers approached Goewert, who they say calmly complied with their request for him to lie on the ground. Officers then reportedly covered Goewert with a blanket as he told officers he had “figured it all out” and that he “understood now.”

Police say Goewert tried to explain his train of thought, “but his conversation did not make any sense.” Officers noted that Goewert was reportedly sweating, had a pulsing vein in his neck and had “rapid, jerky movements.”

Police officers say they determined that Goewert had been riding his bicycle in the park when he removed his clothes. Both the bike and his clothes were recovered as officers waited for EMS staff to arrive.

According to court documents, Goewert told EMS staff that he had taken MDMA, a psychoactive drug more commonly known as ecstasy, prior to the incident in the park. He was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment.

He faces misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct, as well as lesser charges of public intoxication.

Police officers later told StateCollege.com that it can sometimes be dangerous for officers to approach someone under the influence, especially if they don’t recognize that they are speaking to police. However, officers also added that the Orchard Park call was resolved without incident and that Goewert did not cause trouble after being approached by police.
