The Student Farm at Penn State, which focuses on sustainable, environmentally friendly practices, will hold a Summer Solstice Celebration on Wednesday, June 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Local acoustic-rock band Hops & Vines will provide musical entertainment and World’s Fare Food Truck will serve meals from fresh, locally grown food. Admittance to the event is free but guests are encouraged to bring money for the food truck.
Like any good summer celebration, however, guests can feel free to bring a picnic dinner of their own. Other picnic essentials such as blankets and chairs are also encouraged. In the case of poor weather conditions, visitors should check the Student Farm Facebook page for updates.
The Student Farm is located on the corner of Big Hollow Road and Fox Hollow Road in State College. The one-acre, student-run farm has taken off after students lobbied the university for a student farm, believing it would benefit students and the local community.
The farm celebrated its first anniversary in May and in its first year sold more than 10,000 pounds of produce, while placing an emphasis on education and community-building
