Earlier report, posted @ 5:35 p.m. Sunday:

A Penn State student was found unconscious about 7:30 a.m. Saturday in a Glennland Building stairwell, State College police reported.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the student remained hospitalized and had yet to regain consciousness, police said. They’re investigating how he ended up in the stairwell — an exterior stairwell along East Beaver Avenue — and how long he’d been there.

The Glennland Building, which houses both offices and apartments, is at 205 E. Beaver Ave.

The student, whose name has not been released, has suffered significant injuries, according to a police report. He had been out and about in downtown State College early Saturday, having last visited the Phyrst, 111 E. Beaver Ave., a friend told police.

The student and the friend were at the Phyrst together, then parted ways around 2 a.m., according to the police report.

Then, about 7:30 a.m., a passer-by outside the Glennland Building alerted police to the student unconscious in a stairwell, police said.

Police said the student could have sustained his injuries during an accidental fall, but they’re also looking into whether he may have been assaulted.

The unconscious student lives not at the Glennland Building, but on the 400 block of East Beaver Avenue, police said.

They are urging anyone with information relevant to the case to call them at (814) 234-7150. Borough police also accept anonymous tips via their website.
