A 23-year-old Penn State student told police he was assaulted early Tuesday morning on the 300 block of West Fairmount Avenue, State College police said.
The student was walking in the area shortly before 1 a.m. when he was approached from behind by three males, according to a news release.
One of the three hit him in the head and knocked him to the ground, police said. The trio then kicked him and tried to take his book bag, according to the news release.
They stole his iPod but didn’t manage to take the book bag, police said. The victim was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center and released.
Patrol officers apprehended the three suspected assailants in the area; the victim identified all three, according to the news release. Police said they are Jamar Smack, 20, and Brendan Smack, 18, both of State College, and a juvenile who is a State College resident.
Jamar and Brendan Smack were arraigned before District Judge Daniel Hoffman and jailed in lieu of posting of $75,000 straight bail, police said. The juvenile is being detained pending a hearing.
