Penn State Student Reports Rape in East Halls

University police say a Penn State student was raped in the East Halls housing complex early Saturday morning. The exact location of the attack has not been made public.

The suspect is identified only as a college-aged man who is known to the victim. It’s unclear whether the suspect has been charged.

Police issued a notice about the rape in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act which requires authorities to report “a disturbing act of violence.”

Police are using the attack to emphasize the need for people to take the following precautions:

• Do not walk alone. Please call 814-865-WALK, for a free security escort

• Report suspicious behavior to University Police immediately

• If you feel you are in an unsafe environment, get to a safe place immediately and call for help
