Penn State Vice President and Provost Role to Be Filled With Upcoming Search

Penn State announced on Friday it will soon begin its search for the next university vice president and provost, only one of the leadership postions that will need to be filled over the next few years. 

Penn State President Rodney Erickson was Penn State’s executive vice president and provost before being named interm president in November and subsequently taking on the role in an official capacity.

The executive vice president and provost position has been retained on an interim basis since November 2011 by Robert Pangborn. The executive vice president and provost is the Penn State’s chief academic officer, reports directly to the president and acts as chief executive officer in the absence of the president, according to a Penn State press release.

‘As a leading public research university, we plan to attract a strong field of potential candidates. The executive vice president and provost will have leadership responsibility to continue our trajectory of world-class academic achievements through a broad understanding of and experience in higher education and the ability to help set priorities for the University’s future,’ Erickson said.

According to Penn State, the general process for naming a new provost will involve the guidance of a broadly based search advisory committee chaired by a faculty member and with the assistance of a national search firm.

More information on this search effort, including process information and search advisory committee membership, will be released by Penn State as it become available.
