Attracting a four-star recruit from Philadelphia is no doubt a major haul for the men’s program, but it’s still not on the same level of the women’s program.
Coach Coquese Washington is adding a third McDonald’s High School All-American in 2012. Those are the best of the best in high school women’s hoops. There are only 24 this year. Think Elena Delle Donne, Candice Parker, Maya Moore and current Lady Lions’ Maggie Lucas and Dara Taylor, who will join the team next year after sitting out this year after transferring from Maryland.
Candice Agee, a 6-foot-6 center from California, will provide depth on the low block to back up Nikki Greene. Agee will represent the West squad in the McDonald’s game at 7 p.m. March 28 in Chicago.
‘It’s a wonderful honor for Candice, and very well deserved,’ Washington said in a press release. ‘She worked very hard to improve her game over the past year and the results of that work are evident. She is primed to make a very strong impact on our team. I can’t wait for her to suit up!’
The Lady Lions travel to Northwestern at 1 p.m. Sunday, before back-to-back ranked Big Ten contests with Purdue and Ohio State. Sunday’s game is televised on the Big Ten Network.
