Penn State showed its mettle on the road and is now one win away from clinching at least a share of its first Big Ten regular season championship since 2003-04.

The No. 12 Lady Lions picked up a key road victory at No. 17 Purdue on Thursday night, defeating the Boilermakers 74-63. A win Monday night against Ohio State, and Penn State coach Coquese Washington will have given the program its first conference title since the Rene Portland era.

Tip is 7 p.m. Monday, and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

Sophomore guard Maggie Lucas led all scorers Thursday night with 28 points, and junior forward Mia Nickson added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Penn State (21-5, 11-3 Big Ten) saw an eight-point lead shrink to just two at the half, but it never trailed in the second half, earning the statement win.

The Lady Lions snapped a six-game losing streak at Purdue, winning for the first time since Jan. 2, 2004. It was also Penn State’s 10th road win of the season, the most it has had since the 1993-94 team won 11 road games.
