Fresh off it’s championship run at the NCAA tournament Penn State’s wrestling squad came home to a rousing welcome Sunday evening. Several dozen fans were waiting at University Park Airport as the team’s airplane touched down around 4:30 p.m. Cheers echoed through the terminal as the beaming wrestlers made their way through the crowd. They had a lot to smile about, having won the national title for the third consecutive year. StateCollege.com was there to capture the jubilant homecoming.
Coach Cael Sanderson, who was voted coach of the year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, was clearly a happy man — and a man of few words. Here’s what he had to say about his team’s victory.
All ten of Sanderson’s wrestlers made it to the NCAA Championships, and five qualified for the finals. Ed Ruth and Quentin Wright won their weight classes for individual titles. Matt Brown, Nico Megaludis, and David Taylor were all runners-up. StateCollege.com spoke exclusively with Ed Ruth and Quentin Wright. We’ll post their comments Monday morning.
