Penn State’s Morgan McIntosh was not going to lose.

Not on this day — when the coach who so desperately sought him was a decision away from clinching his first-ever victory over the Hawkeyes.

McIntosh rolled through and turned Iowa’s Grant Gambrall for a 4-3, sudden-victory thriller Sunday afternoon at Rec Hall, giving Penn State an insurmountable, 19-12 lead heading into the final bout.

The Nittany Lions won seven of ten bouts for a 22-12 victory.

After losing the first three matches, the Nittany Lions rolled six straight victories, including Ed Ruth’s major decision at 174 pounds. When Cameron Wade finished off Bobby Telford, 4-0, at 285 pounds, he sealed Penn State’s first dual victory over Iowa since 2007. It also marks the first time since 2006 that Iowa has lost two consecutive duals.
