PennDOT is asking drivers to remain alert while driving through the work zone on Route 3018 during the ongoing construction project on Whitehall Road and University Drive.

In a $10.3 million project separate from Ferguson Township’s Whitehall Road project, PennDOT plans to work through 2013 with an end result of a less congested, smoother and more efficient Route 3018.

State College-based HRI, Inc. is the contractor for the project that includes roadway widening, the addition of a center left-turn lane, the creation of marked bicycle lanes, new traffic signals, drainage improvements, waterline relocation and roadway paving.

Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. starting Monday, drivers may be met by flaggers as they come up on the construction. PennDOT asks that drivers be wary of vehicles entering and exiting the construction area.

Through the week of May 21, construction will include:

  • Drainage pipe and inlets installation from the Stonebridge Drive intersection to the Campbell Road intersection
  • Excavation and embankment placement for widening from the Stonebridge Drive intersection to the Blue Curse Drive intersection
  • Bituminous base and binder course placement from the Campbell Road intersection to the Atherton Street intersection
  • Curb and sidewalk and drainage installation at the Atherton Street intersection
  • Setup traffic control will close the outside lane of Atherton Street westbound
  • Place traffic signal foundations on the westbound side of the Atherton Street intersection
  • Also, utility contractors will perform aerial and underground relocation work throughout the project

All work is weather and schedule dependent.
