PennDOT Roadwork Set to Begin in Centre County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin a series of roadwork projects in Centre County next week.

Starting Monday and continuing through May 4, crews will work on improvements to Route 504/Rattlesnake Pike from Black Moshannon State Park to Hall Road in Union Township.

The next projects will be on South Atherton Street, with pipe lining near Branch Road and pipe replacement with new inlets and curbs from Twigs Lane to Villa Crest Drive.

Continuing through the spring and into the summer, other Centre County roads that will see work include:

• Entire length of Fisherman’s Paradise Road (Route 3001) in Benner Township   
• Paradise Road (Route 3004) from Route 150 to Fisherman’s Paradise Road in Benner Township  
• Whitehall Road (Route 3020) from University Drive Extension to South Atherton Street in State College
• Signal upgrades on East College Avenue (Route 26) at Pike Street and Houserville Road in College Township
• Snow Shoe Mountain Road (Route 144) from Gum Stump Road in Boggs Township to Trestle Road in Snow Shoe Township
• Signal upgrades on Benner Pike at Rolling Ridge Drive and Eagle Point in Benner Township

Daylight alternating traffic control patterns will be in place while crews are working. Drivers should expect to encounter flaggers on the roadway and short travel delays, according to PennDOT.

The work is part of a $6.9 million project to address improvements on more than 24 miles of roadway in Centre and Clinton counties. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. is the contractor on the project, which is expected to finish in November.

Overall work will include milling, placement of binder and wearing courses, final paving, joint repairs, pipe lining and pipe replacement, guide rail updates, signal upgrades, ADA ramp replacement, pavement markings and miscellaneous construction.

In addition to these projects, PennDOT is continuing work this construction season for four major ongoing projects in Centre County: Atherton Street reconstruction in State College; realignment of the Route 26 and Route 45 intersection in Ferguson Township; the Route 26/Interstate 80 local interchange in Marion Township; and realignment of the Route 64 and Route 550 intersection in Walker Township.
