Philly Pretzel Factory is rolling out the dough Thursday for National Pretzel Day — at no cost.
Between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., customers will receive one free plain pretzel in honor of the day. Specialty pretzels, such as cinnamon and cheesesteak are not part of the special offer.
According to a press release, National Pretzel Day was created in 1983 when Rep. Robert S. Walker determined his favorite food needed a holiday. Twenty years later, Gov. Ed Rendell joined the bandwagon by re-declaring the unofficial national holiday.
Store employees at the 124 S. Allen St. location said Wednesday each customer is limited to one pretzel, but with no tracking system, it’d be impossible to know whether or not someone got extra dough for no dough.
