Fast-moving thunderstorms late Tuesday morning brought torrential rains to the State College area, quickly swamping some low-lying areas.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., about an inch of rain fell in just more than 15 minutes, WJAC TV reported.
Flash flooding struck a number of Centre Region roads, including the 100 block of North Atherton Street, part of Westerly Parkway and part of Fox Hollow Road, State College police said.
On the 100 block of North Atherton, just outside the bus terminal, an estimated 18 inches of water collected on the roadway, borough police Lt. Mark Argiro said.
He said localized flooding was noted on the 1100 block of East College Avenue and on the 300 block of South Pugh Street, as well.
WJAC noted brief closures of several affected roads. But all reopened by noon, according to the TV station.
