Exciting news for State College fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates: on Wednesday, January 17th the Pirates Winter Caravan rolls into town, bringing with it a whole slew of Pirates celebrities. Pirates fans will have a chance to meet players Zach Duke, Paul Maholm, and Matt Caps. Also attending will be third base coach Jeff Cox and announcers Lanny Frattare and Steve Blass.
The Pirates Winter Caravan is a series of community visits the Pirates are undertaking to meet with local fans and drum up excitement for the 2007 baseball season. The State College caravan will begin with a media session at Lubrano Park, the brand new stadium just opened on campus, located at the intersection of Curtin and Porter Roads. The session will take place from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Players and coaches will have a chance to thank fans for their continued support, and the Pirates community will have a chance to discuss their upcoming season. The media session will be followed by a special luncheon with the Pirates players and coaches at Celebration Hall.

State College Pirates fans interested in purchasing tickets for the luncheon should contact Forever Broadcasting at (814) 237-9800. A ticket to the lunch event costs $20. Admission also gives fans a free ticket for Pirates Community Day, a later State College event taking place on Sunday, April 29th.
Interested Pirates fans will also be given the opportunity at the Winter Caravan to purchase tickets for the Pirates<92> home opener on April 9th, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Information on season tickets and other ticket packages will also be available, as well as information on PirateFest, a three day Pirates expo taking place during the upcoming weeks in downtown Pittsburgh.
