Rockview state prison reported two inmate deaths over a four-day period, according to statements from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections on Wednesday.
Robert D. Williams, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell on Friday afternoon and was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Superintendent Bobbi Jo Salamon reported.
Andrew Yuhas, 61, died on Monday morning at the hospital after he also was found unresponsive in his cell, Salamon said.
In both cases, prison staff and medical personnel provided life-saving measures until EMS arrived, according to the statements.
State police are investigating, as required by state policy. The Centre County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
Williams, of Millersville, was serving a two-to-10 year sentence after pleading guilty in 2020 to retaliation against a witness in Lancaster County. He had been at Rockview since October 2021.
Yuhas, of Wilkes-Barre, was serving a 16-to-32-year sentence after pleading guilty in 1998 to rape and related charges in Luzerne County. He had been at Rockview since March 2016.
