A former Penn State student is facing felony charges after he was accused of indecently assaulting a woman last year in a University Park residence hall.

Kyle R. Bell, 20, of Havertown, was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated indecent assault and one misdemeanor count of indecent assault.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Penn State police, the woman fell asleep on Bell’s bed in Shunk Hall after they walked home from a downtown bar and awoke to Bell assaulting her.

The woman told police that she told Bell “no” and “stop” but that he pinned her down and digitally penetrated, according to the affidavit. After five to eight minutes Bell stopped and the woman said she had to plead with Bell to give back her phone before she could leave, police wrote.

She then retreated to her own room, where “she felt sick and began trying to cope with the assault,” according to the affidavit.

A detective collected “digital evidence, screenshots, records and statements,” after executing search warrants on Penn State’s Office of Information Security, Office of Sexual Misconduct Reporting and Response and Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response, as well as Bell’s phone, according to the affidavit. Details of the evidence were not provided in the criminal complaint.

Bell is not listed in Penn State’s student directory.

He was arraigned Monday by District Judge Don Hahn and posted bail, which was set at 5% of $60,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24.
