A pedestrian was flown to a hospital to be treated for serious injuries after she was hit by a driver Tuesday night in Ferguson Township, according to township police.
A man driving an SUV was traveling southbound at about 7 p.m. on the 800 block of Science Park road when he struck the 64-year-old township woman, Sgt. Ryan Hendrick said. The crash happened in the area of a bicycle crossing.
The woman was flown by medevac helicopter to UPMC Altoona and was in critical condition.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation, Hendrick said.
Centre LifeLink EMS, Patton Township police, Alpha Fire Company and the Centre County Crash Reconstruction Team assisted at the scene.
Science Park Road was closed in the area of the crash for more than two hours.
It marked the third time since Sept. 12 that a pedestrian has been seriously injured or killed in the Centre Region.
Penn State graduate student Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, 25, died after she was struck by a driver on East Park Avenue in State College. Ahmed M. Alqubaisi, 20, was charged with vehicular homicide and recently posted $3 million bail.
A 71-year-old woman was flown to UPMC Altoona with serious injuries on Oct. 3 after being hit by a driver on Bristol Avenue in Ferguson Township. The woman was walking in a crosswalk when the driver turned left off of East College Avenue and struck her.
