Police say a Blair County woman arrested for drunk driving near State College on Saturday night damaged multiple vehicles and other property then assaulted an emergency room nurse.
A State College police officer responded at about 11:30 p.m, to the 1000 block of Oakwood Avenue in College Township and observed Micky L. Barber, 39, driving a Honda CR-V with heavy damage to its front and driver’s side, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Police later confirmed damage to four unoccupied vehicles, two mailboxes and a light pole on Oakwood Avenue.
The officer activated his emergency lights and followed Barber to the end of the street, where she turned into a driveway then backed out off the road into a bush, according to the affidavit.
After blocking the road with his vehicle, the officer approached Barber and observed that she had bloodshot, glassy eyes and emitted an odor of alcohol on her breath, police wrote.
Barber performed unsatisfactorily on field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, according to the affidavit. She was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where she refused to consent to a blood draw and slapped a clipboard out of the officer’s hands, causing it to hit him in the forehead, police wrote.
Barber was turned over to hospital staff for intoxication and to be examined for possible injuries. At about 2 a.m., a nurse reported that Barber “became increasingly uncooperative and agitated” while being tested for internal injuries, according to the affidavit.
Hospital staff had to place Barber in restraints, but she slipped one leg free and kicked the nurse in the side of the head, police wrote. Barber was ultimately restrained and sedated.
She is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault of a designated individual, misdemeanor counts of DUI and attempted simple assault, four summary counts of damage to unattended vehicles or property and a summary count of physical harassment.
Barber was arraigned on Monday night by District Judge Steven Lachman, who set unsecured bail at $5,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 23.
