State police on Thursday charged a State College man accused of transporting methamphetamine from his borough apartment to sell in Schuylkill County.
Investigators say Caelan B. Houk, 25, was also found to be in possession of other illegal narcotics and handguns he was not permitted to own as a convicted felon, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed on Wednesday.
Troopers in Schuylkill County notified the vice unit for Troop G covering Centre County last fall that they and a county detective were investigating the distribution of methamphetamine and had conducted controlled purchases from Houk, according to the affidavit.
Centre County troopers performed surveillance on Houk’s Old Boalsburg Road apartment in March and observed him leaving with a cardboard box. A surveillance team followed his vehicle to Schuylkill County and conducted a traffic stop to execute a search warrant.
The search yielded approximately 1 pound of methamphetamine and a 9mm handgun, according to the affidavit. Houk has a felony conviction and was prohibited from possessing firearms, police wrote.
He was arrested at the time on drug and weapons charges in Schuylkill County and later posted $250,000 bond, according to court records.
Troopers executed a search warrant at Houk’s apartment and found 4 pounds of methamphetamine, an ounce of cocaine, a half pound of psychedelic mushrooms, several hundred Xanax pills and a .45 caliber handgun with the serial number removed, along with “other controlled substances, firearm accessories and ammunition,” police wrote.
Houk was charged Thursday in Centre County with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and prohibited possession of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.
He was arraigned by District Judge Allen Sinclair and did not post $50,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29.
