State College Police Seek 3 Involved in ‘Celebratory Disturbance’; No Injuries or Damage Reported

What police termed a “celebratory disturbance” early Friday morning in the Beaver Canyon area of downtown State College resulted in no reported injuries or property damage and one citation.

But State College police said on Friday afternoon that they also are looking to identify several college-age individuals for their involvement in the incident.

An estimated 1,000 people poured into the street on the 200 and 300 blocks of East Beaver Avenue at around 12:20 a.m., following the Penn State football team’s season-opening road win at Purdue. State College police were joined by officers from Penn State, Bellefonte, Ferguson, Patton and Spring townships, state troopers and Alpha Fire Police in responding to the disturbance.

A 20-year-old Penn State student will be cited for public intoxication and related summary offenses, police said. The department is also looking for the individuals pictured below.

Penn State issued a warning through its PSU Alert system at 12:50 a.m. urging the crowd to disperse or be subject to arrest. The area was cleared and the road reopened to traffic by 1:30 a.m.

“State College Police remind fans that showing your enthusiasm for your team’s accomplishments should not involve property destruction, the disruption of public transportation or commerce,” the department said in a statement. “We appreciate the participants’ cooperation with police requests to disperse and their compliance with the emergency alert to leave the area initiated by Penn State University.”
