A Huntingdon County man was arrested after state police said he was found to be in possession of 1 pound of methamphetamine following a traffic stop on Saturday in Centre County.

A state trooper pulled over Maximillian A. Musser, 36, of Warriors Mark, for driving a Mercedes Benz sedan 63 mph in a 55 mph zone at about 10:30 p.m. on General Potter Highway near Sandcrest Road in Potter Township, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The trooper observed “a large amount of unknown white powder” on Musser’s clothes and the driver’s seat, a glass smoking pipe with residue in the center console area, and a clear plastic bag with residue and an open pack of the opioid suboxone on the floor, according to the affidavit.

Musser denied a request to search the car and was taken into custody, the trooper wrote.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found a large plastic bag containing a pound of methamphetamine, which the trooper wrote is an amount “consistent with Musser being involved in the illegal distribution of controlled substances.” The search also yielded a scale, another open pack of suboxone strips and a container of baking soda, which is often used “to convert cocaine into crack cocaine,” according to the affidavit.

Musser was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, along with two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary traffic violation.

He was arraigned on Monday by District Judge Gregory Koehle and was unable to post $25,000 bail. He is currently confined at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.
