Teen Accused of Burglary, Assaulting Homeowner and Police Officer in Boalsburg

A 15-year-old was taken into custody after he allegedly entered a Boalsburg home early Saturday morning and assaulted an elderly resident and a State College police officer.

The homeowner woke to noises and found an unknown male inside the house on the 100 block of West Main Street at about 5 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from police on Tuesday. He confronted the teen who then allegedly assaulted him. The man locked himself in the bathroom and called 9-1-1.

Police arrived to find the teen still inside. He did not follow verbal commands and fled, according to the statement.

The teen then allegedly charged at and assaulted an officer. Police used a taser to take him into custody.

He remained “combative” while being taken for treatment and evaluation at Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he attempted to assault medical staff and another police officer.

The homeowner was treated at the hospital for facial injuries and released. The officer sustained minor injuries, according to State College police Capt. Greg Brauser.

The teen, identified as a Centre County resident, is charged with burglary, aggravated assault and related charges. He is detained at the Central Counties Youth Center.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about attempted break-ins or other suspicious activity in the area or that have surveillance cameras is asked to contact the State College Police Department at at (814) 234-7150, by email or by submitting an anonymous tip online.

They also urge all residents to keep their homes locked, use exterior motion lighting and report any type of suspicious behavior or activity.
