Police Investigating Assault That Left Victim Unconscious

State College Police are investigating an assault that was reported around 1 a.m. on Saturday on the 200 block of Locust Lane near the intersection of Highland Avenue.

A man was found lying unconscious in the road.  Police said he regained consciousness at the scene and was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center by Centre LifeLink, where it was determined that he sustained serious head injuries.

The man who was assaulted was then transported by Life Flight to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the several individuals, including the victim, were involved in a verbal spat. As the fight progressed, the victim was struck by an unknown assailant, which caused him to fall backwards and hit his head, which rendered him unconscious.

A witness told police that the suspect who struck the victim and another male fled the area prior to police arrival.

Police could not say if anyone involved was a Penn State student.

Crimestoppers will pay rewards of up to $1,000 if information leads to an arrest and conviction.
