State College police are investigating a man who reportedly gave some Ramada Inn guests quite a scare on Tuesday night.
According to State College Police Lieutenant Keith Robb, police got a call around 10:30 p.m. that a man with a gun was causing a disturbance by knocking on random doors inside the hotel on South Atherton Street.
Robb says police believe the man was likely intoxicated, and say he may have threatened another individual at one point.
The nature of that alleged threat and whether or not it involved the gun the man was reportedly carrying are not clear.
Police officers reportedly took the man’s weapon and stored in a lockbox at the inn until the man had sobered up.
Although Robb says the man is not facing any weapons charges and did not hurt anyone, he also explains that police use extreme caution in any situation involving intoxicated people and firearms.
Robb says police are continuing to look into the incident, and that Centre County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case to decide whether to pursue criminal charges. Robb says disorderly conduct and public drunkenness charges are possible, but says that decision is up to the DA.
