Police Jointly Investigating Assault Downtown

Penn State Police and State College Police are investigating an aggravated assault reported around 2 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of College Avenue and Atherton Street.

A Penn State student was walking in the area when he was struck once in the face, leaving him unconscious. He was not able to provide police with any information regarding the identity of his assailant.

Anyone who may have information regarding the incident are asked to contact State College Police at (814) 234-715, Penn State Police at (814) 863-1111 or Centre County Crime Stoppers at 877-99-CRIME (877-992-7463).

Callers can choose to remain anonymous or visit the Penn State Police Silent Witness website. Anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Police remind members of the Penn State community to stay cautious and notify police immediately if they see any suspicious activity.

• Never walk alone at night; call 814-865-WALK (814-865-9225) for an escort.

• Stay in well-lit areas and use well-traveled routes.

• Contact Police IMMEDIATELY if you see suspicious activity/people. For emergencies, call 911. For University Park non-emergency calls, dial 863-1111.

• Students who live in residence halls always should lock their doors, and never should allow unescorted individuals into the building. Residence hall access should be by card-swipe only.
