Police: Possible Trend in Burglaries of Unlocked Apartments on the West Side

The State College Police believe that there may be a trend after a rising number of similar robberies and attempted robberies were reported over the past month.

Around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, a MacBook Pro was reported stolen from an unlocked apartment at 513 W. College Ave., The State College Police Department said. A backpack filled with notebooks also was lifted, but police could not give an estimate of the total value lost.

Earlier, around 9 p.m. a resident of an an apartment at 507 W. College Ave. reported two unidentified black males, both about six feet tall and wearing hooded sweatshirts and latex gloves walked into the resident’s unlocked apartment.

Nothing was stolen and the men were asked to leave, but State College Police Chief

Tom King said the men were reportedly ‘eyeing up’ items in the apartment.

King said police have noticed a trend of residents on the West end of town reporting laptop computers and sometimes cash being stolen from unlocked apartments, primarily in the evening hours before midnight.
