A Penns Valley man was arrested on Tuesday after state police said he fired a gun inside a home while a woman and 1-year-old child were standing just a few feet away.

Lukas L. Evans, 42, discharged the 9mm handgun into a wall of a residence on Lower Brush Valley Road in Pottter Township just before 9 p.m. on Monday night, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Witnesses told state troopers that Evans had been consuming alcohol and was intoxicated when he became agitated because another person was taking too long in the shower. An individual told police that he fled from the residence through a window after Evans “got in his face” and broke his glasses.

Evans then retrieved the handgun and placed it in his mouth before removing it and firing it at the wall with the woman and child nearby, police wrote. He then left the scene in a pickup truck.

A trooper observed a hole in the wall and found both the gun and a 9mm shell casing in the same room, according to the affidavit.

Evans is charged with a felony count of discharging a firearm in an occupied structure, misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, and a summary count of harassment.

He was arraigned on Tuesday morning by District Judge Allen Sinclair who cited public safety in denying bail. Evans is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.
