Pop Up Ave Flea Market Returning to Downtown State College

After a successful first outing last fall, the urban-style pop-up flea market Pop Up Ave will return to downtown State College three times this year.

The first of those will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Garner Street Parking Lot, 150 S. Garner St.

‘We were so happy with the turnout for our first event and received so much positive feedback,’ Pop Up Ave co-founder Andrea Groznik said. ‘We’re thrilled to keep it going.’

More than 1,500 people are estimated to have attended the first Pop Up Ave in September. Free to attend, the curated flea market will feature dozens of vendors from the local area and around the state. They will be offering a mix of home decor, bath products, artisanal jewelry, baked goods, vintage items and more. See the vendor lineup here.

The day also will showcase local art and live music. Elk Creek Cafe & Aleworks will host a beer garden and food vendors will include My My Chicken, Doan’s Bones, and The Funky Freezer ice cream truck. There will be activities for visitors of all ages.

Local artist William Snyder III created a 10-foot sign for the September event, and he will unveil a new one on Saturday.

Pop Up Ave. is scheduled to return again on Sept. 23 and Dec. 9.

When Penn State graduates Andrea and Brad Groznik returned to State College after years of living in New York City, they realized the urban flea market concept would translate well to the Centre Region. Popularized in major cities, urban flea-markets give visitors a chance to check out unique and trendsetting items from a wide range of vendors.

“With all the students, young professionals and new families looking for stuff to do on the weekend, a flea like this feels like a natural fit,” Brad Groznik said last fall.
