UPDATE: Power was restored and Schlow Centre Region Library reopened at 10 a.m. Monday

Original story

A blown transformer appears to be the cause of a power outage affecting parts of downtown State College on Monday morning.

Because of the outage, some traffic signals are out in the downtown and in a tweet Alpha Fire Company asked motorists to exercise caution.

Schlow Centre Region Library announced on social media that it is temporarily closed until the outage is resolved.

According to West Penn Power, as of 9:40 a.m. about 190 customers in State College were affected by the outage. The company’s outages website lists the estimated time of restoration as noon.

The outage occurred at about 9 a.m. and around that time Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to the area of South Garner Street and East Hamilton Avenue for a possible blown transformer.
