In the latest of series of bombshells to come out of the Centre County District Attorney’s office, a longtime Assistant District Attorney is quitting — but not before slamming defense attorneys for alleged “personal vendettas.”
Nathan Boob submitted his resignation through a letter dated March 26, which was made public by the DA’s office Wednesday evening. In the letter Boob says that “it has been a great honor to work for the people of Centre County,” but he doesn’t shy away from the fact that the DA’s office has been the subject of intense public scrutiny in recent months.
He accuses unnamed attorneys “who could not prevail against us before an impartial court of law” of “advancing personal vendettas through false accusations” against Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller.
Boob may be referring to attorneys who have accused Centre County judges of being biased and giving the DA’s office preferential treatment. Those allegations are based on records of text messages between judges and prosecutors that some attorneys have challenged as improper. Boob may also be referring to the two attorneys who presented the Centre County Commissioners with an affidavit from Parks Miller’s former paralegal alleging that she forged a judge’s signature on a fake court order.
A news release from the district attorney’s office says Boob will take a promotion as a prosecutor elsewhere in Pennsylvania, but does not specify where out of concern for Boob’s well-being. In his letter, Boob says that he was the target of death threats made by a convicted murder he helped prosecute. Boob says that some local attorneys made sensitive information public that unnecessarily endangered his life and his family’s lives.
The document that Parks Miller has been accused of forging may also be related to the death threats that Boob references in his letter. The alleged forgery was a fake court order that appeared to lower the bail of a confidential informant who was reportedly helping police investigate death threats made against an unnamed assistant district attorney.
