The annual kick-off event for Coaches vs. Cancer at Penn State, now in its 16th year, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

A highlight will be a reverse drawing in which the winner will score in a 2011 Dodge Challenger or a $25,000 cash prize, according to a news release.

Nearly 800 people attended last year’s reverse-drawing event, raising a record of more than $41,000 for Penn State-CVC and the American Cancer Society.

‘My staff and I are all in with continuing Penn State Coaches vs. Cancer’s efforts,’ Penn State men’s basketball Coach Patrick Chambers said in the news release. ‘We not only want to fight cancer, but we look forward to supporting those affected by this horrible disease in our community.’

Four hundred tickets — each priced at $350 — are being sold for the gala-style kick-off event, hosted by Catering with Style and the Rallis family, according to the news release. Each ticket allows admittance for two and access to butler service, food and drinks, musical entertainment, fireworks, the Penn State Blue Band and a chance to win the Challenger or the $25,000 cash prize.

Ticket sales are handled online at www.cvcpennstate.org. Questions may be directed to the American Cancer Society at (814) 234-1023.

Penn State-CVC is aiming to raise $2 million this year. It’s an initiative of the American Cancer Society, with proceeds helping those who suffer from the disease — and the research to undermine it. Events to support Penn State-CVC are scheduled through the year.
