A Penn State student will spend at least 30 days in jail for taking part in the riots that followed the firing of Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno.

Ryland Boggess, 19,  pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He’ll be on probation for a year upon his release.

The Centre Daily Times of State College reports Boggess was arrested for shaking and pulling down a light pole during the riots that followed Paterno’s Nov. 9 as a child sex-abuse scandal involving a former assistant engulfed the university. A felony riot charge was withdrawn.

More than three dozen people were charged in connection with the demonstrations.
