After years of waiting, area fans of the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant chain will be getting another shot at those Triple Atomic chicken wings.

Construction crews are finishing up work on a new Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant.

The popular motor-sports themed eateries serve up a variety of sandwiches, salads, ribs and steaks.

But they are best-known for chicken wings — available with a wide selection of sauces — ranging from the pain-inducing Triple Atomic to the relatively tame Original BBQ Ranch.

This time the popular eatery will be located in Eastview Plaza, across street from the Nittany Mall. It’s scheduled to open Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.

There used to be a Quaker Steak and Lube on North Atherton Street but that place went out of business in 2008.

The restaurant is owned by the Druzak Merchant Group and will be run by JDK Management. Craig Brennan will serve as General Manager.

The group sees State College as an up and coming market. Amanda Lucas, marketing activities coordinator for Quaker Steak and Lube says, “We did a poll to see what areas would be best to set up a franchise in and State College came in second.”

Brennan says that State College has developed beyond just being a college town. With industry and research companies coming into the area, Quaker Steak and Lube sees an opportunity to grow. Brennan was a big fan of the old franchise when it was in town, and when he heard about another franchise coming in, he jumped at the chance to be a part of it.

“Quaker Steak allows for more individuality among franchises than most other similar companies,” Brennan says. “They allow us to mold each location to a specific market. They let us adapt to the personality of the region.”

Brennan says the new Quaker Steak and Lube will be making a broad appeal to all of State College residents, trying to get everyone from little leaguers to college kids to young professionals.

Lucas plans to host special events such as karaoke and drink specials to attract college students. Penn State sporting events games will be a familiar sight on the TV’s.

Brennan says that Quaker Steak and Lube is an affordable restaurant and has an easygoing atmosphere that comes along with all its franchises.

“People can come here and be themselves,” Brennan said. “People can put on a show all day, and come here and relax.”
