Rain Could Cause Minor Street Flooding Before Mild Weekend

The State College area could see some minor street flooding Thursday night and Friday morning as rain moves into the area.

If flooding occurs, it likely will be due to clogged drains from ice and debris following several winter storms.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Erik Pindrock says a cold front will move into the area late Thursday bringing a period of rain. Centre County could see anywhere from one-fourth to one-third of an inch of rain. It’s possible that there may be some thunder with the storm, too.

Risk for ice is minimal as the low Thursday night will be 36. At the same time, the ground is still frozen so some isolated patches of ice, after sunset, are possible.

By Friday afternoon, clouds should break and the high will be 48.

The weekend is expected to be seasonably mild with Saturday seeing a mix of clouds and sun with a high around 49. For Sunday, the high will be around 44. There’s a chance for a snow or rain shower.

But the warmer temperatures will not last. Much of next week will be frigid with highs struggling to get into the 30’s.

“The rain will wash away some of the snow just in time for it to get cold again,” says Pindrock.
