Reenactors Interpret WWII European Theater at Military Museum

The grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg will once again be transformed into a staging area for the push into occupied France on Saturday and Sunday. An Axis and Allied forces bivouac will interpret field life for the public during the annual Memorial Day weekend event.

“This will be our 19th year of hosting the bivouac,” said museum educator Joe Horvath. “In fact, there’s a generation of reenactors who grew up attending this event as children who are now participating as interpretative volunteers.”

Allied troops include the U.S. 4th Division, the 505th Parachute Infantry and French Resistance fighting against Austrian Mountain troops. The camps open at 10 a.m. each day with tours and children’s activities. A brief history lecture of why the war was fought begins at 12:45 p.m., followed by a tactical ambush demonstration between the Americans and Germans.

The Soldier’s Canteen Show, featuring the musical, comedy and variety act of Jersey Shore’s Joey Vincent is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Pennsylvania Military Museum and 28th Division Shrine, located at 51 Boal Ave. in Boalsburg, is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
