Rep. Glenn Thompson Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Centre County congressman said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

The diagnosis came after what Thompson described as a routine physical and subsequent testing.

“While this diagnosis is a surprise, I feel well, and I will continue my work representing the people of Pennsylvania’s 15th District,” he said. “Anyone who’s worked with me knows I am a person of faith as well as an eternal optimist, both of which will guide me as I undergo treatment. I am grateful to my medical team, my family, everyone I work with and represent in Congress.

“My faith in God is strong and I will tackle this head on. I appreciate both prayers and privacy during this time.”

Thompson, who chairs the House Agriculture Committee, represents the geographically largest congressional district in Pennsylvania. The sprawling 15th district includes Centre, Armstrong, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, Union, Warren and parts of Indiana, Lycoming and Venango counties.

Currently serving his eighth term, Thompson has represented all or part of his native Centre County since he was first elected to Congress in 2008.
