U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, was released from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday night after being treated on an outpatient basis for COVID-19, according to a statement from his office on Saturday.
The Centre County congressman, who according to his office is vaccinated against the virus, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday afternoon after experiencing cold-like symptoms. He went to the Bethesda, Maryland military hospital for treatment “out of an abundance of caution,” a press release on Friday stated.
Thompson is now recovering at home, where he plans to work virtually this week.
“He thanks the Attending Physician at the U.S. Capitol along with the doctors, nurses and staff at Walter Reed for their concern and care,” the statement said.
The 62-year-old is in the middle of his seventh term in Congress, having first been elected in 2008. He represents the 15th Congressional District, which includes all but the southeastern part of Centre County and portions of Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, McKean, Venango, and Warren counties.
