Last week, district attorney Stacy Parks Miller said that she believes someone has information on the murder of 60-year-old Pine Grove Mills resident Jean Tuggy.
Tuggy was found dead in her home, the vicim of a gunshot wound to the head, on Jan. 21, prompting a Ferguston Township police investigation that hasn’t yet resulted in an arrest.
Parks Miller’s office offered a $1,000 reward through Centre County Crimestoppers last week, but the Centre County commissioners upped that reward to $5,000 on Tuesday. Any information that leads to an arrest is eligible through the reward as long as it’s submitted to tips@centrecountycrimestoppers.org.
‘When somebody does something this terrible, they normally tell someone,’ she said. ‘We believe that someone out there knows who did this to her. And we believe that they can be motivated by different things, and that can be a conscience and it might be money now. We don’t care. If money motivates you, that’s fine by us too.’
Police have eliminated a number of suspects, going through the usual people like family and friends. Parks Miller said that Tuggy’s estranged husband was looked at, but has been ruled out as a suspect at this time.
‘We’re appealing to the public. We want to remind people that she is a real person. She is a mother. She has been a member of this community for a long time,’ Parks Miller said. ‘We want her to remain in the forefront of people’s minds.’
