New York City’s Rockefeller Center announced on Monday that its 2017 Christmas tree will come from State College.
The huge Norway spruce will be cut on Thursday, Nov. 9, and make the 239-mile trip to New York, arriving on Nov. 11 at Rockefeller Center, where it will be a major attraction throughout the holiday season.
The current owner and location of the tree were not immediately made available.
After being wrapped with more than 50,000 multi-colored lights and topped with a Swarovski star, the tree will be lit on Nov. 29 during the live broadcast of “Christmas in Rockefeller Center.”
The tree will then be on display until Jan. 7. After it’s taken down, the tree will be cut into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity for use in home building
