Rollercoaster Weather Pattern Continues: Heat & Humidity Expected Next

You’ve probably noticed we’ve gotten a mixed bag of weather extremes lately. Cooler temperatures made this past Memorial Day weekend seem more like the unofficial start to spring rather than summer. There was even the possibility of frost in some places overnight on Saturday.

Going in a different direction, today’s weather included a drenching rainfall. And the next change in the weather is just around the bend.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines says Wednesday will feel “totally different” as a warm front moves into the area later tonight.

“We’ll get some cool days, but nothing like we had over the weekend,” Kines says about the remainder of the summer. “That’s about as chilly as we can get it. That should be the end of it until fall.”

Wednesday will mark the beginning of a stretch of days with temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s. It will be a little warmer than temperatures recorded last year around this time, Kines says, but he doesn’t expect any record-breaking heat.

Kines does expect some humidity with the warmer temperatures though.

“It’s something we haven’t had to deal with yet,” he says. “It won’t be oppressively humid, and I don’t want to say it will be uncomfortable, but we will all notice it.”

Alyssa Maras, a Penn State senior living in State College this summer, says she’s looking forward to warmer temperatures, especially after the chilly weather the area experienced this during most of the spring.

“The weather is always ridiculous here,” she says. “It’s just been nuts.” The nursing student hopes to do some traveling as the weather improves this week. “Weather affects my mood a lot. When it’s nicer, I’m happier.”

Cheryl Foster lived in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., before moving back to State College six years ago. “I would prefer it to warm up sooner, but I think I would have to go a little further south for that,” she says.
