West Penn says an unknown issue caused roughly 3,200 customers to lose power in State College Friday morning.
The outage occurred about 5:30 a.m. and impacted customers in Park Hills and residential areas in the southwest portion of State College. Power was restored to all customers by 8:20 a.m., according to West Penn spokesman Tom Kearney.
The company is investigating what caused the outage.
Kearney says two breakers at a sub-station on Patterson Street were tripped for an unknown reason, which then triggered the outage.
“The breakers did what they were supposed to do, they sensed a problem and turned the power off so it doesn’t become a real catastrophe,” Kearney says. “It’s hard to say what would have caused it, but nothing obvious like a vehicle accident or anything like that.”
