Sandusky in Prison: Judge Cleland Signs Official Sentencing Documents, Date To Be Determined

Jerry Sandusky will be sentenced for his crimes against boys in about 90 days, pending “any evaluation deemed necessary,” as ordered by Judge John Cleland Thursday. 

Sandusky, 68, was convicted late last Friday on 45 of 48 counts of abusing 10 boys he met through The Second Mile over a 15-year period. His bail was revoked and he was taken into custody at 10:09 p.m. He remains in the Centre County Correctional Facility, where he awaits sentencing. 

In a one-page document signed Thursday, Cleland scheduled Sandusky’s hearing in Courtroom 1, where he was found guilty by a jury of his peers, for a time still to be determined. The flexible time frame is to allow any psychological evaluations or any other evaluations deemed necessary and arranged by the Centre County Probation and Parole Department. 

The former Penn State football defensive coordinator is on suicide watch and in solitary confinement. Karl Rominger, counsel for Sandusky’s defense team, was the first to visit Sandusky in prison and said his client maintains his innocence, despite an overwhelming conviction. 

Many of the charges on which he was convicted carry a minimum sentence, and Sandusky could face up to more than 400 years in prison.
