New York Giants tailback and former Penn State star Saquon Barkley signed his first NFL contract on Sunday afternoon.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Barkley signed a four-year deal that is worth a fully guaranteed $31.2 million. Just over $20 million of the contract comes as a signing bonus, and he’ll receive $15 million of that immediately. He will get the rest of his massive signing bonus by October.
Barkley’s contract is the most lucrative one signed by a member of the 2018 NFL Draft class so far. His $20.76 million signing bonus is the most for a rookie in “several years”, according to Rapoport.
Sunday was certainly an exciting day for Barkley, who reported to his first NFL training camp along with the rest of the Giants’ rookies. Nine of the Giants’ practices throughout training camp are public; free tickets are available on the team’s official website.
Barkley will likely see his first game action as an NFL player against the Cleveland Browns on August 9. The two teams will meet for a 7 p.m. kickoff at MetLife Stadium to open the 2018 preseason.
