Saturday Snow, Sunday Freeze Headed For State College

In what seems to be a State College tradition during the 2015 winter season, another weekend will bring yet another winter storm to the area.

The region could get hit with three to six inches of snow, beginning late Saturday morning and continuing through the evening, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines.

“The snow should start up in State College within two hours [by 11 a.m.] and taper off by Sunday morning,” Kines says. “I would expect road conditions to be pretty bad, and with temperatures below freezing they could get icy as the storm progresses in the area.”

The storm has prompted a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service that is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday morning. It will dump up to a half-foot of snow on State College before giving way to dangerously cold Sunday temperatures.

Kines says that it could reach slightly above freezing on Sunday afternoon before a severe drop will see single digit temperatures that evening. With the wind chill, it could feel like -10 degrees on Sunday night.

As is always the case with icy storms and temperatures well below freezing, it’s recommended that you travel with caution and avoid driving if possible.
