Last year, the State College Area High School cheerleading team qualified for the PIAA state competition and competed at the high school nationals in Orlando, Fla.
Head coach Roxanne Williams expects to see the team competing at the state and national level again this season, in addition to cheering on the school’s football, basketball and wrestling teams.
This year’s varsity squad includes 22 cheerleaders, led by senior members and captains Sydney Callenberger and Skylar Kutruff. The program also includes an 11-member junior varsity team.
According to Williams, one big thing is new for the 2018-19 squad: “We are coed again.”
This is Williams’ third year as the State High cheerleading coach and she is assisted by Mariah LaPorte, Samantha Hyde and Rachel Webb.
