If you’re a State College family with multiple library cards, you no longer have to worry about rounding them all up the next time you head to Schlow Library on South Allen Street.

The library announced a new mobile application on Wednesday that will allow you to manage and store multiple library cards on your phone.

The mobile app, called ‘My Library Card,’ will also link to library services. It was developed by Michael Hayward, the IT Services Technician at the library.

“With the new app, parents can store their entire family’s Schlow library cards as eCards in one place,” Hayward said. “Now you can leave your physical library card at home, and simply carry your eCard or eCards on your  smartphone.”

This is especially helpful for families with kids, allowing parents to ditch the plethora of cards in their wallets for the much simpler barcodes on their smartphone. You’ll also be able to reserve books, pay late fees, check your library account, and more through the application.

The app is free for both Apple and Android devices and is available to download in the iTunes App Store and Google Play store now. According to a press release from Schlow, the library intends to share the technology with other district libraries so that they can create their own apps with similar functionalities.
