Part of Interstate 80 in Centre and Clinton counties will be temporarily closed Thursday night for vehicle recovery from an early-morning crash that occurred near the Bellefonte exit, according to PennDOT
I-80 westbound will be closed between exit 178 at Lock Haven and exit 161 at Bellefonte. PennDOT initially planned to begin the closure at 10 p.m., but in an update sent at 5:30 p.m. said it would begin as soon as possible due to extensive traffic backups. The closure is expected to last at least midnight.
Traffic will be directed to follow the Brown Detour using Route 220 northbound to Route 150 southbound to reconnect with I-80 at Milesburg. Locals familiar with the area may wish to use alternate routes.
Message boards on Interstate 99 northbound will tell drivers attempting to reach I-80 westbound to take exit 78A/150 South and follow it to reconnect with I-80 at Milesburg. I-99 northbound traffic will not be permitted to access I-80 westbound at Bellefonte and will be directed onto I-80 eastbound, according to PennDOT.
